Told you so!

If you've been around this blog for a while, you'll know that I'm always saying that there are no short cuts to weight loss, fitness or "toning". And that gimmicks that sound too good to be true usually are. (Yeah, remember Power bands?)

So this story in today's newspaper about Reebok's Easy Tone shoes made me just a little bit gloaty. If you're not familiar with the concept of "toning shoes", this quote from the article sums up the claims the manufacturer made about their product:

Reebok falsely claimed that walking in EasyTone footwear had been proven to lead to 28 per cent more strength and tone in the buttock muscles, and 11 per cent more strength and tone in the hamstring muscles and calf muscles than regular walking shoes....

The US Federal Trade Commission found that there was no evidence to support the claims, and Reebok have been ordered to pay refunds totalling $25 million to customers who bought the shoes. Bad luck for all the folks who thought they could short-cut the process to a great butt - looks like it's back to the gym for you!

I do love it when I'm right.
