Shouldering the burden

Source

I've had a niggling shoulder issue for.... I don't know....weeks? ...months? I haven't exactly been ignoring it, I've just had other more important problems to deal with. Right elbow/forearm/wrist, left side of my neck, wonky hips, broken toe. Hey, some bits are still functional - my belly button works just fine. It sits there, perfectly belly button-like.

Over the past few weeks the shoulder's worsened though, with pain hampering certain movements. I've never had good range of motion in my shoulders, but I knew I was in trouble this week when doing my bra up became a contortionist exercise.

I had the physio take a look today and after a painful game of Do this... Now move it this way... Now that way.... Does that hurt? he diagnosed shoulder impingement. Oh yay. Just what I needed; another part that doesn't work properly.

It would appear to be caused by my cruddy sedentary desk job - like most of my other problems. Sitting at a desk for prolonged periods? Worst. Idea. Ever.

It won't be slowing me down though. Some intensive physio, ice, rest and then a rehab program should sort out the shoulder. Meanwhile, I'll be getting on with things regardless. I might not be doing any boxing or overhead presses for a while, but there are plenty of other options. Yesterdays weights workout has my glutes and hamstrings sitting up and taking notice, and this morning I banged out a nice sweaty gym cardio session. RPM is definitely a goer, and with a little modification, some yoga and Pilates will be fine too.

Injuries make me cranky, but I'm not letting my inner Eeyore take control of my thoughts.

My right shoulder is currently the bane of my existence (impinged also). Bloody desk jobs! Rehab can get frustrating! x

Thanks, girls. :) I'm confident it'll improve with a little TLC. It's not that bad, more annoying than anything.

*sigh* Onward...

Just for you, here is one of my favourite Eeyore and friends conversation - currently stuck to our fridge to remind my kids that even Eeyore can see the bright side..."It's snowing still", said Eeyore gloomily. "So it is". "And freezing." "Is it?" "Yes" said Eeyore. "However," he said, brightening up a little, "we haven't had an earthquake lately"

Ha! Love it, Sandra! That might not be quite as reassuring if you live in Christchurch though...
